veski celebrates a 2012 Royal Medal

If the past eight years have demonstrated one thing, it's that scientists and researchers returning to Victoria as veski innovation fellows are destined to achieve national and international success.
In the past 18 months alone, inaugural veski innovation fellow Professor Andrew Holmes AM has received a 2012 Royal Medal and veski innovation fellows Professor Michael Cowley and Dr Mark Shackleton have received the Science Minister’s Prize for Life Scientist of the Year for 2011 and 2012 respectively.
At veski’s end of year celebration in honour of Professor Holmes’ Royal Medal, veski chief executive officer Ms Julia L Page said these achievements combined with another successful year of funding, research and publication successes is the reason veski is again calling for the next round of fellowship applications.
“We have an established track record of attracting applications and awarding fellowships to globally competitive individuals who, within the first few years of returning to Victoria, make their mark,” Ms Julia L Page said.
“Our established selection process, based on merit, ensures we attract veski innovation fellows in the top five percent of their fields who are quick to secure additional funding and be recognised through national and international awards,” she said.
Since 2004, veski has awarded 15 veski innovation fellowships to scientists and researchers working across a range of basic, applied and clinical research fields, from modern health issues such as cancer, dengue and obesity, to innovative studies into nanotechnology and organic semiconductors.
veski is now calling for applications from leading researchers and scientists to join them.
Applications are sought from globally competitive individuals in the fields of biotechnology, biomedical, advanced manufacturing, environmental technologies, or the enabling sciences and technologies.
Successful individuals may receive up to AUD$50,000 per annum for a maximum of three years. These funds must be matched with financial funding [cash] and in-kind contributions from a Victorian host organisation allowing them to undertake their research in Victoria.
Application details can be found under the fellowships section at www.veski.org.au and close on Wednesday, 23 January 2013.
